You’ll enjoy the “Golden Days of Radio" and take a "Sentimental Journey" back to the beginning of the Big Band Years and famous radio personalities like Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Kate Smith, Arthur Godfrey, Burns and Allen. Solo Audition This is generally a short, first time performance to a chosen piece of music. Typically only the entrance is choreographed and the rest is freestyled. The purpose of the audition is to give the newcomer or the new dance a ‘trial run’ in front of an audience and to receive comments from the judge on how to turn the dance into a full fledged routine.

Solo Routine: This is a routine choreographed to a chosen piece of music. The performers are the only ones on the dance floor and will receive a score and comments from the judge.

Formation Routines: This is a choreographed routine for more than one couple to a chosen piece of music. The performers are judged on the same criteria as a solo routine and also on their lines and togetherness as a group. The group will receive a number score and comments from the judge.

Group Competitions: A competition in which dancers are competing against each other. The competitions are designed so that each couple will be competing against like couples. Meaning; couples in the same experience, proficiency, and age level. The judge will award 1st – 3rd and finalist awards. In the event of an uncontested group competition the couple will be
judged against the standard for that level. (no written comments for group competitions)

Multi-dance Competitions: This is a 3 dance group competition event, the same guidelines that apply to the group competitions apply to each dance in the multi-dance competition. The couples are scored on each of the dances and then the scores are combined to create an overall placing for the multi-dance event.

AMERICA'S BALLROOM CHALLENGE returns for a third season on PBS with five one-hour episodes. Shot in high definition at the world's largest ballroom dancing competition, the OHIO STAR BALL in Columbus, Ohio, AMERICA'S BALLROOM CHALLENGE airs for 5 consecutive Wednesdays, January 30-February 27, 2008, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET on PBS.

Hosted by actress and dancer Jasmine Guy and seven-time U.S. National Latin Dance Champion Ron Montez, AMERICA'S BALLROOM CHALLENGE once again takes viewers onto the dance floor and behind the scenes as 24 world-class couples compete for the ultimate dance title. Each of the first four programs will focus on one of the four major styles of competitive ballroom dancing: American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard and International Latin. The six finalists in each style will first compete as a group, performing the five standard dances in the category, with expert judges scoring their performances. Then the dancers will have an opportunity to shine, performing a show dance solo. Each program will end with the crowning of one couple, named champions in that style.

In the fifth and final program, the four champions will compete across dance styles for the coveted title, with each couple performing two pull-out-all-the-stops solos.

Only one couple will be named "AMERICA'S BEST."

Greetings and welcome to the blog. People frequently ask me to keep them updated on studio information, competitions, dance events, etc. and I felt this would be a great way to keep everyone informed quickly. As I hear of events that are coming up I will put a new post up on to the site and am happy to pass along any weblinks. Please let me know if you hear of any cool things that ballroom students might be interested in hearing about!

Also, effective September 1st I will be raising the rates for the "In your Space" rates. With gas and travel costs increasing I finally had to break down and raise my rates for the first time in about 5 years. Thanks for understanding!
